Mandatory car insurance

In Switzerland, car liability insurance is mandatory. It covers damage to other vehicles, people or property caused by your car.

When purchasing a new car, you must be able to prove that the new vehicle is insured. Contact your insurer to find out.

Time to change your insurance

You can cancel your car insurance policy after the contract has expired or in the following circumstances: when you change vehicle, after a claim or, from January 1, 2022 onwards, after three years of cover.
