Every year, 26,000 people in Switzerland suffer a brain injury. This can affect anyone, but the most common causes are strokes, cerebral hemorrhages, traumatic brain injuries, and brain tumors.
A brain injury changes the lives of those affected and their relatives – and the road to recovery is long and arduous. FRAGILE Suisse specializes in supporting people with brain injuries and their families. It offers counseling, guidance and courses for those affected and their families, trains professionals, and advocates for the social inclusion of people with brain injuries. In addition, the organization educates and raises awareness among the public and promotes prevention.
It is not uncommon for people affected by brain injury to have limitations and disabilities in their daily lives – for example, they may lose the ability to walk or speak properly or may be paralyzed on one side. A disability may also manifest itself in many other, less noticeable ways. Not only a person’s behavior, but also their abstract thinking and personality can change or be impaired as a result of a brain injury.
Zurich Switzerland supports the commitment of FRAGILE Suisse: For every new life insurance policy taken out, Zurich makes a financial contribution to the patient- and professional-support- organization FRAGILE Suisse.
In addition, Zurich aims to raise awareness of the issue. Hence, as part of the cooperation with FRAGILE Suisse, Zurich is offering internal training seminars for its customer advisors, administrators, and care managers to help them deal with people with brain injuries. The goal is to ensure customers continue to receive the professional advice and support they require after suffering from a brain injury.
