Zurich Trainee Program

Your entry into a specialist or management career with Zurich

Did you achieve good results in your studies? If so, the Zurich Trainee Program offers you an outstanding opportunity to get to know the insurance business from the ground up for 18 months in a global insurance company, to take the first steps towards your specialist or management career, and to develop a valuable network that crosses all divisions.

The program in detail

As a trainee with Zurich, you will prove your skills on a daily basis and constantly expand your abilities. Thanks to placements in the company, you will become familiar with different aspects of the insurance world and be part of a broad network.

Regular networking events with experienced colleagues as well as with other trainees will enable you to develop a broad network that crosses divisions.

This is what you can expect in the 18-month Zurich Trainee Program:
  • A joint introductory week with all trainees
  • A six-month placement in the selected corporate division
  • Placement in a division with a similar function for five months
  • Four months of direct customer contact in a Zurich general agency
  • Project work, seminars, workshops and papers
  • Mentoring by an experienced colleague
  • Enhancement of skills in the areas of methodology, strategy, leadership and social competence
  • Regular networking events with other trainees as well as with senior management

The Zurich Trainee Program starts every 12 months in September.

Possible entry areas

As a trainee you will apply for a specific position in one of the divisions: General Insurance (personal and property insurance), Life (life insurance) or Global Corporate (business insurance). Depending on Zurich’s needs, you will then start your career in one of the following areas, for example:
  • Claims: You will learn about claims management and operational benefit provision at Zurich, develop your skills in consulting in connection with claims and contribute your knowledge to strategic projects.
  • Underwriting: You will become familiar with the professional review of risks and how to determine their rates correctly. As an underwriter you will evaluate risks and decide under what conditions they can be borne.
  • Risk Management: You will learn how risks are identified, monitored and assessed, you will analyze their causes and interactions, and work on suitable measures to reduce risks.
  • Sales: Over 100 independent general agencies advise private and corporate customers throughout Switzerland on matters of non-life and life insurance. The independent general agencies as well as the brokers with whom Zurich works are supported by different support units. In Sales you will receive a complete overview of the sales organization and support units of Zurich. You can also use your newly acquired knowledge while working on different projects.
  • Life: Private and occupational retirement provision are becoming increasingly important pillars of the Swiss social system due to the demographic development. Zurich has an extensive range of pension and investment solutions for private and corporate customers. As a trainee in the Life division, you will get to know the product/process and sales worlds for individual and group life and will be involved in our striving for the highest service quality for the benefit of customer satisfaction.
  • Additional entry options: As a trainee, you can also start out at Zurich in other key areas such as Finance, Human Resources, Operations, Product Management and Sales.

At Zurich you are starting your career with a first-class employer. The requirements we place on our trainees are correspondingly high:
  • Good academic qualifications
  • Initial practical experience as well as initial international experience
  • Very good German and English skills, additional languages are a plus
  • Dedication and individual initiative
  • High degree of customer orientation
  • Interest in the insurance world and a willingness to get to know it from the ground up
  • Additional demands depending on the position

Every 12 months in September the program will start. The application process takes place over several stages: online test, interviews and assessment center. You will receive detailed information on this before your first interview.

If you have the required qualifications and are prepared to tackle the challenges of the Zurich Trainee Program, we would be pleased to receive your application documents.
